The ChampionChip TimePoint is a permanent timing system in a sports area or public park, where the ChampionChip will be registered 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.
As soon as an athlete passes the TimePoint, the personal chip code is send to the website and to the display together with the time of passing.
Basically the TimePoint has three important parts, the ground antennas, the housing and a display. The antennas and the housing are an essential element of the system. The display is optional, but experience tells us that athletes really appreciate the display. The immediate feedback and seeing their name up in lights along a track makes running fun.
The modular set-up facilitates the quick and straightforward installation and maintenance of the system. The system includes an inbuilt GSM modem providing a continuous connection with the website, which also allows technical monitoring of the system. A GPS module allows the system to provide precise time records. A Wifi connection is available for maintenance of the embedded software.
Antennas
The antenna patterns in the track surface are always 2 meter in the running direction and can vary from 1 to 8 meters wide. The track should preferably be 4 meters wide or less. If the antennas are stretched above 4 meter the density of the pack of athletes that can be measured drops a little. As the system is primarily designed to be a training aid for individual athletes or small groups, 4 meters wide will be sufficient in most cases.
If races are to be organised at or near a TimePoint, professional help of an official ChampionChip timer is needed.
System housing
The system is available in three variants:
1. Manhole System
2. Cabinet System
Manhole System
The manhole system is installed in a sunken chamber made of recycled PVC with a manmade composite frame and cover.
The system includes a watertight polycarbonate housing configured to allow it to be located as a single unit in a circular cavity in the road surface.
To rule out any possibility of water damage the housing is shrouded in a PVC tube using an airlock arrangement. This principle guarantees water tightness even under extreme conditions.
Cabinet System
An aboveground system in a specially designed stainless steel housing.
A solid plastic window is fitted in the roof to allow antenna signals to pass. The system is contained in the same high quality polycarbonate housing as the underground version and is similarly watertight and dust-tight to IP44.
The system housing is fitted to an easy removable mounting plate.
The display
The standard display offered with the TimePoint is a LED-display with six rules of thirty characters. It is mounted on a four-meter high pole.
We offer two versions. An A-quality, vandal proof version for installation in public parks, and a B-quality version for installation in more protected areas such as sporting clubs. In both qualities, the internal electronics are similar, only the housing and the pole are different.
The pole has to be installed at about 25 meters distance from the TimePoint antennas. This ensures that athletes passing will have a good sight on the display while doing their laps.
The website MyChampionChip.com
The website is mainly designed to serve the needs of the athletes. There is also a section on which sports area owners can monitor the use of the systems and technicians can check the status of the installed equipment. The website is free of charge and to be used with the system.
Reliability
The systems are designed to operate full time and have proven to be very reliable. Whenever the system should notice a failure, an SMS-message will be send to the responsible technician.
The system is delivered with a maintenance agreement that provides full service on site. If anything does go wrong and cannot be repaired, the system will be replaced.
